I shared the news with my IG fam, but I figured y'all wouldn't mind a lil climbing update too....along with some exclusive boobie- and booty-full celebrations in the van 🤙🧡 Story time: I started climbing in July 2020. I was immediately obsessed (as are most climbers lol)…Since then, I’d say bouldering has taken up 80% of my time, top rope 15%, and the last 5% lead/sport. I started bouldering because of the substantially lower barriers to entry (partners/gear/skillset)…but I had always been fascinated by rope climbing before I knew bouldering was a thing. Early on, I knew this was the sport for me. So I invested in all of the gear I’d need to boulder and sport climb outside. I actually climbed my first sport route outdoors in November 2020 (a week after I bought my van lol), but I could never get the same consistency with rope climbing as bouldering because of the whole partner thing (and I was in love with the bouldering-only gym where I first started climbing at the time). I took an indoor lead class in Feb 2021, but didn’t end up taking the test until months later (decided to do it on a whim and passed the climbing portion but failed before I even got to belay because I back-loaded the gri gri while chit chatting - lesson learned lol). Looking back, I know I would have failed the rest of the belay portion anyways, so it worked out. I had only practiced lead belaying once prior lol 🙈 After my failed first test, I had a complete mental block when it came to learning to lead belay. So I stuck to bouldering, top rope, and lead climbing occasionally. Flash forward to a couple weeks ago. I decided to take another lead class at a different gym as a refresher with the hopes I’d get to focus more on belaying because I was pretty comfortable lead climbing already. My mind was blown by how much it all made sense. I got a good amount of lead belay practice in in class and was so stoked that I was finally starting to feel confident and comfortable doing this thing that had been looming over my head for so long.
