When we are in the woods, Waffles is on-leash about 90% of the time. Legally, she can always be off-leash because we are usually hiking on private property with permission, but her brain is still developing, so we want to avoid undeniable urges that could lead to bad habits. This means only unleashing when I am training-ready with rewards that she finds reinforcing in that specific moment and environment🥰🐶💕💕

"Smell Adventures" are a ton of fun! That's where you take your dog to your favorite hiking place right after a heavy rain. The ground is completely soaked and releases aromas that have been trapped deep beneath the hard soil, but when I tell Waffles to smell the soft earth after the rain stops, she gets so excited about what she discovers!
