Handstands are my moving meditation, come learn with me the magic of handstands at my yoga retreat with @audriasana this October or new online handstands session at P@treon both links here https://www.rhyannawatson.com/insta-offerings/ Being upside down brings play back into our life and joy into movement. A great article you may enjoy reading We think of trying to become aware of this state like tuning a radio to a certain frequency. We drift in and out of this frequency many times a minute throughout our lives . This is what meditation masters mean when they say you are already enlightened / perfected / one with God, whatever your preferred terminology is.  We just do not have the preconditions in our lives to easily notice and then maintain it. We can imagine an old radio with a tuning dial and we are trying to finely tune to one frequency very clearly and what the various  practices do is add more and more decimal points to the dial so we can tune it finer and finer and eventually lock onto the state and not just skip over it. What I present now is a series of steps that need to be trained, once you have some competency in one step, then you add the next one. Very simple but also very hard. They can be practised solo to get them right. All of them done together will give you the best chance of becoming aware of the state we are seeking. Precondition: You have to be able to hold a straight handstand. Longer is better, obviously, but mainly there just needs to be minimal doubt in your mind that when you enter you will establish balance. Step Minus One: Until you have practised all the steps for some time do not try and compare this practice to anything else you have done. Engaging in the act of comparing, judging and commenting will box the practice into certain mental dungeons and possibly limit the emergence of the state we are looking for. Just treat this as a technical exercise with certain skills to be mastered and layered. Simple. Step Zero: Your phone / TV / music  has no place in these sessions. It can be useful in your normal training but here it has to go away for the duration of the session. So no social media, no filming, no music, just you and the floor. Step One: In the Daoist philosophy they have the idea of man situated between sky and earth, Material and immaterial, so we need to emphasise the verticality of our line. This will mean we want to generate an internal stretch from the palms to the toes, This doesn’t mean elevating the shoulders but stretching the intent of the shape to fill as much space vertically as possible. This has to be coupled with the least amount of tension in the body possible. Tension will kill the ability to do the next stages. You’ll know this is right when there is a stretching / connected feeling all over. Eventually we want to be able to hold an intent of the body stretching to the clouds or further and to the centre of the Earth. This is something outside the scope of this article and generally requires a separate training. Step Two: You must not fight for balance during the handstand. If you lose it you lose it no big deal. You are relying on the verticality of step one to hold you still. I would even say you must not balance the handstand consciously but must just stay in the balance and let the corrections happen, Get out of the way of the body and let the natural balance you have strived to train emerge. Ride the balance wave Step Three: The goal here is to find a moment of perfect immobility. For this to happen the eyes must not move for the whole hold. You lock the eyes on a spot on the floor and do not let them shift around. Do not blink don’t look from side to side. Body as vertical and as still as possible, eyes not moving and locked on. Simple to say, very hard to do in practice. Step Four: In Miyato Musashi’s book of five rings he talks about the balance of kan and li, fire and water, for the two visual systems of peripheral and focused. We can generalise these to focused attention and peripheral attention. Despite what the multi-taskers will say we only have the ability to focus on one thing at once so in the above we have established a single visual focal point. Now we need to set a peripheral awareness. For this we need to shift our awareness to encompass the whole body in its totality. If you find you are locking onto a specific part of the body, then it is shifting your focused attention off the visual point and into focused interoception. Reset the visual and try to expand the sensations of the body in a spherical manner. Step Five: Breath silently, There should be no sound of air coming in and out of the mouth or nose. The breathing should be smooth and relatively deep but without being förced. Breathing itself will cause shifts in balance that are part of the waves of balance in the handstand. Step Six: All these steps need to be practiced solo and then trying to combine them. It’s better to spend some time working on one and then adding it together. My Teacher Serge Augier compares this to making a salad: A salad is a very simple dish, some chopped vegetables combined in a bowl. What makes a great salad is have the best ingredients, so work on the ingredients first and then the layers. Now onto the final step, The State: You will notice I haven’t tried to define this state as I won’t as if you set all the preconditions above then you will have the best chance of noticing it and when you do it will be clear and not need an explanation. Pretty cool eh? Step Seven: Tuning the radio, We now have our radio built, we just need to hold all the parts together and start playing with the dial. In the breathing we have 4 phases, inhale, retain, exhale, retain. Depending on your breathing cycle these will be different for each of us and you are not going to try and alter it one iota. We now start the hunt for the state, there is one moment in the retentions that is the perfect centre of the breath. The Point where inhale shifts to exhale, if you hold the breath to try find it you will either be holding the end of the inhale or the start of the exhale, so there has to be a level of non involvement with holding the balance of the focus points and letting the still point in the breathing cycle infuse to our balance. Hard to describe but very clear when you experience it. This part is like trying watch a bird while hidden in a bush. The bush is made up of all the steps above the better our steps the move coverage we have and the more hidden we are. If we lose a step while seeing the bird we shake the bush and scare the bird and have to hide again and wait for it to return. Further details: The process we are using is a form of distillation, to use the term in its alchemical sense. By repeatedly entering and exiting the state, we will be able to further refine our state and get a clearer gate to entry. Once you are able to find the state, then you can get rid of the training wheels and just enter it at will. The only limit will be your level of concentration, but that is a different skill. Between the rounds of the balance I suggest you just sit down. Doesn’t have to be a special meditation posture or anything just sit and try to not comment, critique or judge your previous handstand or plan the next set. Wait for you to feel ready to go and then do the next set. This practice has to have a balance between correcting and working on the details and then just doing. I would suggest that when you start, aim to do maybe twenty mins split into ten mins working on the steps, and then ten mins just doing and letting the training emerge. Once you get better at the steps and are able to repeatedly use them, then you can expand the doing section of the practice. Part 2 coming soon on p@treon nude yoga and philosophy for handstands

What to Expect: You'll break through the limits in your hips and legs' opening capacity and feel your muscles burn and shake. You will find many deep layers of hip opening flexibility that contribute to your middle splits in this 4K 30-minute session. Few tips for middle splits: The only way to make middle splits better is to help those hip flexors/adductors feel safe so they stop screaming. Here are a few tips to help you on your quest: 1. Don’t force it! Nothing will make your muscles scream harder then having someone come and push on them or having you force them open when they are so scared. This will make them fight more and can result in a pulled muscle or damage to your connective tissue that will be difficult to heal. 2. Strengthen the other hip muscles. Whenever a muscle is having a hard time relaxing you can help it feel safer by developing the surrounding muscles. If your hip flexors/adductors are overworked, strengthen your hip extensors (glutes and hamstrings), abductors (outer hip), and external rotators (outer butt). This will reduce muscle imbalances in the hips for more relaxation and range of motion. 3. Strengthen your hip flexors and adductors. It may sound counter-intuitive but often strengthening a stressed-out muscle will help it feel more confident. A confident muscle has an easier time relaxing in a stretch. 4. Do all your other splits as well. Working on your front splits and straddle will help to open up and engage your hips so that when you get to your middle splits you are more prepared. 5. Engage your external rotator muscles (outer butt) while you are in your splits: Most people have difficulty accessing their full middle splits with the legs in parallel because of the way that the bones of the hips are formed. Turning out the legs moves the head of the femur (leg bone) out of the way of the pelvic bones so that your leg can go deeper into the stretch without crunching or pinching. It has the added advantage of helping the inner thighs relax (see step 2). If you find yourself so deep into your middle split that you can’t figure out how to engage your external rotators, try not going so deep yet or try step 6.* 6. Work on one leg at a time. If the very notion of attempting a middle split makes you want to break into a cold sweat, try just stretching one leg at a time. Keep one knee bent in a frog stretch to help support your weight as you slide the other leg out. This can be a great way to work on finding your external rotation, checking your alignment, and calming your body before going for the full split. If this still feels like too much, lie on your back with your butt against the wall and let your legs fall open, working on your external rotation from here until you get more confident. 7. Breathe. Seriously, it is so much harder to stay calm and get your muscles to feel safe if you are holding your breath, gasping, moaning, or groaning. Breath is one thing you have control over so force your body to breathe slowly, in and out, to a nice slow count of five. This sends a message to your muscles that you are calm and everything is ok.

Yoga is a practice that helps enhance overall health and well-being, which in turn, helps one lead a healthier yogic lifestyle. 1. Yoga improves strength, balance and flexibility. Slow movements and deep breathing increase blöod flow and warm up muscles, while holding a pose can build strength. Try it: Tree Pose Balance on one foot, while holding the other foot to your calf or above the knee (but never on the knee) at a right angle. Try to focus on one spot in front of you, while you balance for one minute. 2. Yoga helps with back pain relief. Yoga is as good as basic stretching for easing pain and improving mobility in people with lower back pain. One of the things I pride myself on is working hard at everything I do. Nothing in my life has come easy. The hours I put into anything I do can never be seen or understood. So often the online world can never do justice to the work behind the scenes. So many are ready to remind us that our value is not there. However I am learning it is teaching me to remember we have to value ourselves. For example one video: Years of building the skills, knowledge, wisdom. This includes paying for courses/studying and doing the work in between work, family life and every day hustle and life that crops us. Then you must buy the equipment which can take time to work and save for. Next you must make a plan of action of how and what you wish to share. Schedule time to create, warm up and cool down and potentially do multiple takes. Then comes the editing process, write up and posting followed by comments and follow ups as well as dealing with those that hate and recalibrating yourself to remain strong. This is one video that someone creates and shares for others. So much more than ready set action. Now imagine learning skills like handstands, presses, splits and more. 10 years of practice. Two photos. One with clothes one without. Same day. Same activity dancing in my apartment for me. So many ask why we as women show our naked bodies or humans in general. Or many simply have an assumption about those that show their bodies. When I was a kid I grew up with a father that walked around naked and a mother that was shy about her body. Both however had no basis on seeing others naked. They called humans beautiful specimens when they admired a physique, usually to do with sport. My brother ended up less open about his body and I more relaxed. Same upbringing. However as we grew and experienced life our lives became very different. This changed us not wrong or right but that is why we are who we are today. I was taught to see the body not for what we were but for what we do and use it as a tool for life. I remember as a kid wearing very daggy clothes and my dad being proud of me for not caring about how I looked. I remember as a state swimmer, national waterpolo player and international runner wearing very little tight clothes and never getting any disrespect, just congrats on my performance or feedback. Sorry about any spelling or grammar issues. I need to put my glasses on. As a kid I suffered dyslexia so it takes a couple goes for me to get anything with spelling mistakes or grammar issues. My friend use to say it would not be a card from you without you making a mistake in it lol I remember also being one of the first female football umpires in Tasmania. We wore white uniforms at that stage. Shorts and t-shirt that would go see through in the rain. I remember the sexual comments at 14 and it was confusing for me because I did not understand why some spaces respect was held no matter if we had clothes or not. Ive learned over time it is our upbringings, cultural, environmental teachings and wiring that makes us who we are. We can change our views if we want however it takes work. It is also important to note how people view me or you is not necessarily me or you. Just their subjective opinion. When I was in my mid 20s I went to Austria and had a naked sauna with my friends parents, Head of Police, Town Mayor and a hunter. We chatted and laughed with broken English and German I did not understand. After the sauna we had homemade schnapps. I had 4 to many because I did not know how to say I had had enough lol. Still to this day I do not recognise the Head of Police or Town Mayor in person in clothes. Two very offical characters and lovely humans. Yet here we are meeting for the first time in a mixed naked sauna because it's normal in Europe. Not in America or Australia. Just a different experience in a different part of the world. The human body if I am clothed or not is not sexual inheritenly or not or the person good or bad. It is just part of life and our different subjective experiences. As you can see in my umpiring days I had more people sexualise me than in the naked experiences I shared above. I still remember guys out of the stands saying look mate she's wearing a thong! It makes me laugh now looking back how easily we can be amused as humans sexually. Erotica is adult play. It can be a simple touch a funny joke, a smile, a gaze, or more intimate. However it is the new level of kids play. It makes us feel good and come alive. Once we learn sexuality we cant unlearn it. Sexuality makes us feel good and alive just like playing as kids. That is why we when we get new partners we are on top of the world exploring discovering. Every meal, phone call, conversations is amazing and nothing has changed really except our play (discovery) with ourselves and another and also intimacy. That is also why with long term partners we may get a little dry and bored because we stop discovering, playing and having fun. Just like kids with a new and old toy and also like with kids they can do silly things playing... So can adults and we just need to remember to find more balance and respect with it and know everyone plays differently. I share my human form because it is me. It was how I was born and who I am. It is an act of being human in a world of hiding human or trying to live up to the expectations of being human. It is also being healing for me to love and accept myself after losing a kid and having a kid. After trauma from ræpe, physical and emotional äbuse. When I started learning yoga I did it naked at home, so that my barriers of shame and words outside of me of the world and others I held true I could release. I also did it to build an understanding of this amazing body we all live in to see the muscles work and build a mind muscle connection and build a better practice. I share sensuality in dance and movement because this makes me feel less of a robot and less dark as a human in this world that can be hard many days. To be sensual and feel myself, my mind. my body, my soul through my senses makes life more rich and less empty. For those sharing their sexuality I commend them and think that is beautiful that they are empowered to do so. However my sexuality is reserved for me and those I share it with privately. I am here to teach and share a human clothed or not clothed and to make others know it is okay to be who they are. It is okay to be sexual but we do not need to force it on others if that is not their thing in all the spaces it is ours. We can simply appreciate our differences and find other ways to share or connect. I also want people to know sexuality is normal part of life. For those men suffering from worry are they big enough. It is the same as women suffering are they beautiful or thin or curvy enough. In my experience those that are enough. Are enough not because they are ideal or perfect. It is because they accept themselves. They are not great lovers because they have big parts or perfect parts it is because they can be present and learn, discover, feel everything and connect to themselves and others they are with. I did my yoga teacher training in Bali in 2018 and also a photoshoot with our photographer of the course Olivia. I also shared my heart and soul in my book. It is hard sharing your life. So many people are ready to make mincemeat of you these days online. Social Media Works...Me: I prefer Mangoes to Oranges. Random Person: So basically what you are saying is you hate oranges? You also failed to mention pineapples, bananas, grapefruits. Education yourself. I am literally shaking. Personally I am still healed and healing, learning and growing but I will always be human trying to love harder and be more real in a world that does not wish for that anymore. Why? I think we have gotten in this world that being imperfect, real, failure and just learning and growing are part of the process. Usually we only share our successes, beauty or pretend successes. A big part of our stress today is not accepting failure, striving for perfection and not accepting aging. If only we could relearn and remember it’s all part of the process and it is okay to share these parts of us too. It would make being human a little less stressful and even more enjoyable. Kids often play and discover and grow because they don’t have the draw of standards they open and see they fail and say I’m not worthy. They have draws of experience and learning that align with joy. Let's try it again when they open them. Let your inner kid shine, allow space for you to learn and discover even if the world can't appreciate it you will and your life and mental health will benefit too. See full dances in p@treon link in socials From my book Brave, Beautiful and Baring it All - on Amazon When I hit my lowest point, I reconnected with my inner kid by finding something to work on that would make me excited. Who knew that learning handstands could change lives? I guess because I was upside down a lot of the time, my frown turned into a natural smile. As well as practising handstands and yoga, I read books that touched my heart, soul and mind. I gave myself permission to dress up nice and take myself out somewhere special – just because. I danced and let my inner kid shine. Some days I still get lonely, sad and filled with regrets, but I now know that connecting with my breath, looking for positives and goofy dancing help a lot. I am learning to do things for me and have rebuilt my home with the things I like but which might not be to everybody else’s taste. Colours that calm me down, a plan to follow when things turn dark. A few people I try to treat right, even though I don’t always succeed despite my best intentions. I’m learning. I’m learning to make things awesome for myself. I’m learning every day that I save myself. And most importantly, that this is a life-long work in progress.
