Summer body is coming in nicely! 😎💪🏼
Remember although results are not immediate. If you pay close attention to diet and exercise for a specific period of time, you will change your body atrophy to what you’re working for. The human body is extremely good at adapting to its surroundings, give yourself a goal, then micro adjust your actions to reflect that goal.

Is a keeper saving it? Probably. Although, the basics are there which is all I need to focus on for now. I’m no Leo Messi (even though we’re born on the same day 😝).
The drive up the field, the skill move to shake the defender, and the shot on frame are the 3 key elements to a forward's gameplay.

Arguably one of the hardest ab workouts known to man: Hanging leg raises.
This ab workout focuses on strengthening core stability,
functional abdominal and grip strength, and overall core strength.
I love them so much due to the burn, but even more so because it’s fun watching all my friends try and give up 🤣.

Dead hangs:
Most people think dead hangs are for those who just want to strengthen their grip. However, it has wayyy
more benefits that people don’t know.
The most important benefit I’ve noticed is the spinal decompression. Especially if you’ve been sitting for a long time or simply work out with weights, that’s a lot of pressure built up in your joints and nerves. The best way to alleviate that pressure is to hop on a bar and hang.
It’s easy!
If it’s your first time trying it let me know how it goes!

Don’t forget to stop and appreciate how far you’ve come every once in a while!
Especially with improving athleticism and dieting. It’s easy to have a lazy day or not eat properly, but don’t forget why you started and what your goals are.

Activity and energy:
Although it’s important to avoid strenuous workouts 24/7. Doing a quick jog, small workout or even just a nature walk can be a great way to keep the body happy, healthy and in tune. Today was my rest day, but I decided to do a super quick & light upper body day to get the bl0od pumping a bit.
Ate a protein rich meal and now I feel like a million bucks 🤑

Today’s post I want to dive a little bit into diet:
In high school I struggled with it incredibly, eating mostly empty carbs and sugar. Now with the exercise and attention mostly on growth and performance, I’ve mastered it a little bit more.
One thing I try a lot to focus on is eating clean proteins. Salmon, chicken, steak and tuna are some of my go to’s for after a workout.

Abs:
Especially in the realm of soccer, having a solid core is honestly one of the most critical parts to being an overall well developed player. Having the ability to stop on a dime, turn directions quickly, and most importantly last a full 90 minute game. Obviously there are other benefits, but here are a few of the good ones.

How’s your touch? ⚽️
As a keeper whose job was to ping a ball directly to my teammates. Their job was to control the ball before it had the first bounce. In all game time situations, it’s super beneficial to have this skill in your arsenal. This allows keepers to work fluently with players that are all the way up the field. Rather than working it from the back every single time.
Let me see what you got! 👀

Happy hump day!
Starting it off right with some sun and mini ball shenanigans. This was actually incredibly good for me seeing I had no shoes on. Remember the mini ball is excellent for improving your touch, because the room for error is much smaller.
Hope everyone is having a good week! ☀️

Cleat selection:
Not many people talk about this, but having the experience I do, quality cleats make a night and day difference in your gameplay as well as experience. I’ve used cheap cleats for the majority of my high school soccer career, and as soon as I upgraded, my eyes lit up, I felt so much more comfortable instantaneously. I haven’t used another pair since, and they’re falling apart inside and out. 100% recommend splurging on that one item, for it will completely determine your experience on the field.
I used the pair on the right for 1 season and they fell apart on the bottom. The pair on the left has lasted 3 seasons, and I’d chose them every single time.

Hydration tip:
More than 75% of the adults in the U.S. are chronically dehydrated. A perfect way to fix dehydration is remember this rule: For every 20lbs of body weight, drink 10oz of water and you’ll be perfectly hydrated. 😊

There’s only one way to throw a soccer ball 40+ yards. Train back and biceps to failure 😝💪🏼
Unless you’re that one acrobatic soccer player that can do a front flip before a throw in, this is the way.

Vitamin D:
One thing I’ll be taking extra advantage of this summer is getting more sunlight. The benefits of vitamin D through simply sitting under the sun is super important. Through Vitamin D alone, you are able to absorb and retain calcium and phosphorus significantly. This is fantastic for building stronger bones, reducing inflammation, and even controlling infections.

Toe touches:
The toe touch exercise fully engages the abdominal wall and helps to tone the abs, it’s a great thing to focus on when performing mobility exercises. This exercise also helps to improve your posture, flexibility, balance and even hamstrings.

Mechanical Monday:
Today we got a little mechanical with the mini ball. Focused on precise keepy-ups with consistency. My streak for the day was 28, although it’s not ideally what I want, the important part is got it done ✅.

For all of my fellow keepers. Let’s talk about hand placement.
The most important part of a keepers job is catching, distributing, and parrying the ball, in doing this we need to make sure the hands know where to go.
No matter how you’re catching the ball you must make sure your hands are placed exactly how mine are, with your thumbs reaching down to the bottom of the ball.
Create a triangle shape with your hands, then place your hands on the ball. This is roughly the position you want every single time, for this provides your hands with the most resistance possible to contain and control the ball regardless of power. Happy catching!

I know I preach consistency a lot, but it’s for a good reason. I’ve been in the gym 3+ days a week for the past 7 years, and played soccer since I was 4 years old. As much as I wish it was genetics that got me here, I attribute all of my strengths and results to the consistency in training and diet.

Nothing like some late night futsal!
Today i was feeling extra sore after a couple games, so I had to stretch it out before I left. Remember stretching right after a game or even just a leg day is crucial for preventing aching muscles the next day.

Ankle stretch:
The benefits to this stretch are so important, especially in the realm of soccer and weight lifting. It involves: *Opening and strengthening the ankles.
*Provides strong stimulation of the four meridians ( main pathways that transport blo0d throughout the body) flowing through the feet and ankles.
* Offers a great counter pose for squatting or toe exercises.
If you want a greater connection to the mobility in your feet. I highly recommend adding this to your list of stretches.

Shirts versus skins, you in? 😎
The thing I love the most about soccer is it can played almost anywhere. The goals can consist of two shirts each, and out of bounds can be water bottles. It’s the beautiful game for so many reasons, and that’s one of them.

My favorite all time action: kicking
Before freshman year in high school, I could barely get the ball off the ground. Now, my record distance on a free kick is 65 yards.
As easy as it is to say power isn’t everything in soccer, increasing my quad strength in the gym sure did help. That’s why whenever I hear someone say they don’t workout cause they don’t want to get too big, I laugh.

This type of drill is easily becoming my new favorite workout for improving footwork. The best thing about it is it is it can be setup in a completely random fashion. Simply place the cones in a random method, then try to dribble threw them all with no mistakes.
It’s extremely good for working on micro touches, so toe touches on the ball would be a great warmup to begin with.
